Action Summary of City Council Meetings

The following is a summary of key action items taken by the Mayor and Council at the last City Council meeting. The meeting was held at City Hall at 25 East Alabama Street, Tallapoosa.

City Council “Regular” Meeting – April 8, 2024

  • Minutes, financials, and checks over $300 approved.
  • Approved the final budget amendments for FY23.
  • Readopted the adoption agreement on the GMEBS Defined Benefit Retirement Plan for city employees using the most recent IRS-approved adoption agreement.
  • Approved the renewal terms for the city’s property and liability coverage from May 1, 2024, to May 1, 2025. The invoice amount is $241,355, up approximately 22% from last year.
  • Approved the next phase in the transition of transferring our telephone/internet service to Syncglobal. The next phase should include the Tallapoosa Library, Tally Mountain Golf Course, the Recreation Department, and the City Hall Annex when it is completed.
  • Approved entering a contract for MyGovHub services that will give customers online capability, including access to usage, online bill pay, and the option to opt out of utility paper bills and receive eBill notifications.
  • Adopted a resolution establishing five ethical principles for city officials’ conduct as part of GMA’s City of Ethics program recertification process.
  • Approved adding a seasonal reconnection charge. Beginning May 1, 2024, the City of Tallapoosa will assess a $75.00 seasonal reconnection charge if the gas service is disconnected (for the summer months) and then reconnected (for the winter) at a single location.
  • Approved entering a contract with Haralson County for a Drug Taskforce. The city will provide the salary and benefits for a law enforcement officer. The mayor and council would review the agreement each year.

May 13th, at 6:00 pm at City Hall at 25 E. Alabama St.
